Our two block commercial district consists of original brick buildings built in the late 1800's. These beautiful old buildings are now filled to the brim with antiques and specialty shops. Our newly updated and enlarged museum offers a glimpse into the past for visitors, and is open everyday (except holidays) from 1-4.
We have several choices for restaurants; fine dining to soda fountain lunches.
Oakland offers the Beckley House Bed and Breakfast, a pleasant place to stay while visiting. You'll enjoy the 1900's 2 story Classic Revival Victorian home, and the breakfast!
We have superb schools from pre school to high school right here. We are proud and supportive of our youth.
We hold "Christmas in Historic Oakland" the second Saturday in December, with old fashioned gatherings around the Christmas Tree, located in the center of town.
Spring time brings the popular Oakland City Wide Yard Sale. People come from afar on the 3rd Saturday each May to hunt for treasures to take home.
